Daniel J. Stimac, born and raised in Kailua-Kona, recently wrote the musical score for the feature film “A Date With Miss Fortune.”

Stimac has been building a career in Los Angeles for the past five years as a music composer for film, TV, and other media.

“This definitely hasn’t been an easy venture,” said Stimac. “It seems like everyone and their mother wants to be a film composer!”

He recently appeared in Toronto to celebrate his personal milestone, the premiere of “A Date With Miss Fortune.” He was joined by his brother, Jonny Stimac, lead singer of Kona-based band Goodbye Elliott, as the band’s song “Ticket To Love” is featured prominently in the movie.

In the vein of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” and “Meet the Parents,” the romantic comedy tells the story of an all-American guy’s efforts to win over a superstitious Portuguese girl, and her very traditional family.

The film sold out its opening weekend on the East Coast, followed by a sold-out opening in Toronto the following weekend.

On Monday, the film was made available everywhere via video on demand and on DVD.

“We’re hoping it expands to theaters in Kona soon,” said Stimac, “but they’re seeing how well it does in Canada and with video on demand. If it gets a lot of views, we can bring it out to Hawaii.”
